About Us
Turkey Science Centers Foundation is an NGO established with the vision of creating a knowledge-based society; raising the interest of Turkish society towards science, scientific thought, new Technologies and leading industries of the world and particularly supporting the young generation to develop the necessary skills and know-how through interactive education.
The founders of the foundation include Turkish Ministry of Education, Turkish business & society leaders, artists, acedemians, leading universities and organizations of Turkey.
The objectives of the foundation are:
- To increase the society’s knowledge about social and applied sciences,
- To provide an enviroment that offers enthusiasm of learning, excitement of experiments and joy of discovery,
- To improve scientific thought, verbal and analytic skills in the community,
- To provide a platform to introduce and discuss new information, creative ideas, discoveries and inventions,
- To strengthen the communication between the industry, schools and society.
Turkey Science Centers Foundation is achieving these objectives via a Science Center in Istanbul. Science Centers make science easy to understand for the public, introduce scientific theories to the society, increase the awareness for science and scientific thought. Science Center established in 1998 continues to host thousands of visitors and serve for the good of the society.
Turkey Science Centers Foundation organizes special projects, contests, science schools, workshops, exhibitions and European Union projects.
SCIENCE CENTER TOUR
Science Center is hosting 60 thousands people every year. The visitors are mainly student groups in the weekdays and families at the weekends.
The tours can be;
- Standard tour for 1,5 hours including about 80 experiment units; exhibition and earthquake & fire education sections
- Tour for 2,5 hours with workshop programs added to the standard tour.
During the tour, guides in the Science Center introduce the experiment units one by one to the visitors. These cover many topics such as space section with planetarium, weight in space and blck hole units; electrics, optics, magnetism and topologies.
The exhibition section covers different topics every season. With these exhibitions, visitors are finding about important subjects such as life in poles, global warming an digestion.
PROJECTS
EU PROJECTS:
Turkey Science Centers Foundation is a partnern in various EU projects, and carries out simultaneus projects with the leading Science Centers & Museums in Europe.
PLACES:
Places project includes, training of Science Centers, museums and local governments in order to carry out science focused community events leading cities of Europe, and working through creating the concept of European Capital of Scientific Culture.
TIME FOR NANO:
TSCF is a partner for Time For Nano Project together with science centers & museums in nine European countries. This is very first project that aims to introduce nanoscience and nanotechnology to young generation in Turkey. It includes Nano Days, interactive experiments with Nanokit, contests and trainings for teachers.
HULDA PROJECT:
The foundation is supporting the activities staged in worldwide famaous sculpturer İlhan Koman’s boat named “Hulda”. The boat hosts cultural, artistic and scientific events in 10 European ports.
